“When there’s one step left
Let’s do it together
Watch the day burn away.
You ran
Without looking back
The past is like nooses
Tied on your sleeves
You’re not into promises
And don’t need deception
I’m wearing your jewelry
Jewelry is wounds”
I’ll start with the fact that this is one of the most difficult works. Not in terms of implementation, but in terms of content. The author’s song itself is about suicide. About a difficult period in life. I listened to this song for half a day. Then from time to time. I tried to experience it in the form in which I see it. So let’s move on to the visual.
In this work, the idea of time is shown in the form of burnt matches (like stripes on a wall in a prison, reminiscent of waiting for something, 4 vertical and 1 horizontal, that is, “5”). A match is burning in the fingers – as if “one more attempt”, which, perhaps, will be successful. It is also a reference to the phrase “watch the day burn out” from the song. Perhaps this will be a way out. At the same time, on this “attempt” there is a loop in the form of a “noose”, as if this is a symbol of the “end of sadness”.
Also, the matches on the hand visualize the scars from the cuts, As if they were suicide attempts. The song itself is called “Is There an End to Your Sorrow?”, performed by Ukrainian author Vladislav Hohlan.
Since I myself have gone through some similar experiences, I would like to add some light to the work, like a smiley at the end of a sentence, but sometimes the darkness wins, so let this be my darkest work.
