We watched one of the series, which relatively recently received an American adaptation. But… aren’t English detective stories the best? That’s what I’m talking about. That’s why I recommend watching this version.

This is an anthology series that contains several stories (10 episodes, and 9.5 stories, more likely), each of which is almost unrelated to each other. There is a defendant whose case is being considered in court. Over the course of the series, we learn how exactly this or that person ended up in the dock and what prompted people to violate the law and order. Sounds dry? Well… let’s figure it out.

There are several options for how the story is told. One option is a “colourful story,” with the addition of certain facts that might not have been there. Another is the story as it happened. Each of the plots is quite original and gives you the opportunity to look at people’s actions from a different angle in different situations, which sometimes might seem absurd, but until you find yourself in them. Each episode is like a separate film, almost an hour long, so you should be prepared that you won’t watch this series in a few evenings.

The pluses are interesting stories, the presence of famous actors (for example, where else will you see Sean Bean in women’s clothes with painted nails and a long wig? Well, that’s it!), and a relatively small number of episodes. The minuses…probably only that the series is moody. There are no jokes or anything that could distract from the story in a more positive way, and the stories are quite heavy. So if you are not in the right mood for watching, it is better to postpone it until another time.

Overall, I liked the series myself, so I recommend watching it 🙂
