How many actors do you need to make an interesting film? The answer will surprise you…

When we watched Dogville (2003) by Lars von Trier, the aftertaste was quite interesting. You couldn’t believe that in the minimal scenery, when the plot is played out, in fact, on a theater stage, you would see a whole world. A whole city with its own history and secrets. The film Sleuth with Michael Caine and Jude Law in the lead roles evoked similar feelings.

According to the plot, Milo Tindle (Jude Law) comes to the house of a famous detective story writer – Andrew Wyck (Michael Caine). He wants Andrew to agree to a divorce from his wife, with whom Milo himself has been dating for a long time. Andrew agrees to this, but on one condition. Milo must steal one thing from Andrew’s house, for which he will receive insurance compensation, and Milo will be able to sell it, thereby securing a new life with his beloved.

Jude Law here looks like a young and carefree man who is ready to take risks (which is worth the risk of just visiting his girlfriend’s legal husband). Michael Caine, on the contrary, looks like a rather cautious mature man who has seen life in its entirety and, at the same time, who simply does not want to bow to “some snotty”. Each of them is playing their own “game of preemption”, which is to show the weakness of the other in relation to themselves.

Interesting facts: there was once a 1972 film of the same name , in which Michael Caine played, just like Milo Tindall.

Do I recommend it? Yes, in my opinion the film turned out to be very interesting 🙂
